Notes![REALLY quick sketch of these three with literally slapped-on colours. I decided to make them POCs, since I have too many white characters. I also changed their names to accurate ethnicity.

Myrmark is now Hispanic. Mateo means “God’s gift”; Alonso means “ready for battle”; Bengochea means “house furthest down” in Basque; Capello means “chapel”, a place name for someone who lived by a chapel or an occupational name for someone who worked in one.
Mateo’s family is old money and highly religious, and when Mateo’s father found out he was gay (well, homoromantic asexual, but gay nonetheless) he sent him to be “healed”, resulting to the scar and skin discolouring on his face (he also lost an eye). After that the father disowned him and kicked him out. While wandering on the streets, disoriented and completely alone, Ashvathi and Jack found him and took him in.
Ashvathi then taught him shadowbinding and gave him a dragon shadow (ignore the old, shitty art and the text beneath it) named Mandarine, which he keeps in his left eye socket.
Mateo is sort of vain, and having almost half of his face disfigured like that was a big loss for him. That’s why he has a floppy emo hair, to hide the “ugly” half of his face. Also, that is not his natural hair colour, he’s bleached it to bring out the teal he got from his mother. (Suspend your disbelief here)
Dnepr is now Indian. Ashvath: Strong; Shyam: Dark, Lord Krishna; Charan: God’s feet.
Ever since Ashvath was a child, he wanted to learn shadow binding, so when he became of age, he sought out someone who could teach him. He found a master, but he heard vague storied about his questionable past. Disregarding that, everything seemed to be fine, Ash learned shadowblinding from his quiet and eccentric master.
Everything changed during a training trip, when Ash lost his left hand, and the master replaced it with shadows, which caused some shadows to get into Ash’s bloodstream. Which you shouldn’t never let happen, since shadows have a tendency to turn organic matter around it into shadows if it’s left in its own devices for long enough. (Note to self: write more about shadows and how they work.) This was a huge shock for Ash, since he knew he would become a shadow himself eventually.
When he confronted his master about replacing his hand with shadows, the master just said it was an experiment. Eventually the leaders of the shadowbinders heard about this and ordered Ash to kill his master. But there was no cure for Ash’s condition, so he decided to start waiting for death. But while he’s alive, he wants to help as many people as possible, so he started a small business with his friend Jack.
What they do is pretty much finding lost people, items or almost anything for money. They call themselves “bounty hunters”, because “glorified helper boys” doesn’t sound as cool.
Jack is Filipino. His surname means “to come along”.
Jack is a shapeshifter, and I haven’t thought of his past much. Mostly because it’s not anything special. He has a sister who he loves dearly and would do anything for.
In this universe, shapeshifters are genderqueer, and Jack is no exception. I think he identifies as androgynous, but he doesn’t care about pronouns much. You can call him “he”, “she”, “they” or whatever and he won’t be offended.
Jack is a shameless flirt, and he seems to have a crush on Mateo, which is why he stays in male body for most of the time these days. But sometimes he changes to female body to troll Mateo.
